Espinosa Recreates Murcielago Cigars

Back in 2009, Erik Espinosa and Eddie Ortega owned United Tobacco/EO Brands. In a collaboration with the Garcia family, the company launched Murcielago cigars. When Ortega and Espinosa split ways, Espinosa was given the Murcielago name. Because the blend was made at the My Family Cigars factory, the Garcia’s kept the blend and the brand was put on hold.

Even though he didn’t know the blend, Espinosa didn’t give up. He enlisted the help of Amlicar Perez-Castro, a former employee of the Garcia family. Through reverse engineering, the two were able to recreate the Murcielago Cigars blend.

The recreated blend was finally launched at the 2015 IPCPR trade show by Espinosa Cigars. It features new packaging and presentation by way of a red and black band, but uses the same Mexican San Andres wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers and binders of the original cigars. Unlike the originals which were available in Robusto, Toro, Churchill, Belicoso and Toro Grande, the new launch is available in Noir, La Lune and Nocturne sizes.
